Ivo Babuska, Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics and Mathematics, has been awarded the honorary scientific title, "Doctor honoris causa" from Czech Technical University in Prague for his world renowned scientific work in numerical mathematics.
Czech Technical University was founded in 1707 and is Dr. Babuska's Alma Mater. Here he received the degree "Engineer" (Civil Engineering) in 1949 and the degree "Doctor of Technical Sciences" in 1951.
Dr. Babuska specializes in numerical solution of partial differential equations, especially the finite element method, and applied mathematics in general. His major field of application is continuum mechanics. Dr. Babuska has served on the Cockrell School of Engineering faculty since 1995. He has received many honors and awards, including the Humbolt Award of Federal Republic of Germany, Honorary Foreign Member of the Czech Learned Society, and several honorary doctorates from various universities around the world.
He has published more than 300 scientific publications in the field of mathematics, numerics and mechanics. Several of his books were translated into various languages and he is the member of more than 15 international journals.
