Dr. Robert H. Bishop has been named Opus Dean of Engineering at Marquette University starting July 1, 2010. Dr. Bishop has been on the Cockrell School of Engineering faculty since 1990 and served as department chairman in Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics for six years. He was the recipient of the 1997 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Excellence in Engineering Teaching Award and the 1999 John Leland Atwood Award that is given periodically to "a leader who has made lasting and significant contributions to aerospace engineering education." He was elected to the Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2002, and was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2007, and a Fellow of the American Astronautical Society in 2009.

Dr. Bishop is a specialist in guidance, navigation, and control of aerospace vehicles and expects to maintain a strong research program while continuing to engage students actively in the classroom.
