Leszek Demkowicz, ASE/EM Professor, was recently awarded an endowment for distinguished visitors from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been invited to visit the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Berkeley with the title Russell Severance Springer Professor for four weeks during the 2006-2007 academic year. As the Chair holder, Professor Demkowicz will present a seminar and participate in teaching during his time spent at Berkeley.

Dr. Demkowicz' research interests include computational acoustics and electromagnetics, hp-adaptive finite and boundary element methods, and applied functional analysis. He has published three books and over 150 technical articles and reports. He recently co-chaired the Eighth U.S. Congress on Computational Mechanics in Austin, Texas in 2005.

Dr. Demkowicz is affiliated with the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.
