ASE/EM Professor Stelios Kyriakides has been selected to receive an Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa Doctorate) from INSA Lyon (Institut national des sciences applique´es de Lyon) of France. The ceremony and associated events will take place on April 21, 2009 in Lyon.
Kyriakides' research focuses on instabilities which limit the extent to which solids, structures and materials can be loaded or deformed. He is Director of the Center for Research in Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Materials and holds the Cockrell Family Chair in Engineering No. 10.
