On August 11, Professor Wallace Fowler, along with 71 other faculty members from within the University of Texas System, was presented with a 2010 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching award during a ceremony held on the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Nominees for the award “must demonstrate a clear commitment to teaching and a sustained ability to deliver excellence to the undergraduate learning experience.” Competition for the awards included evaluations by students, peer faculty and external reviewers over a period of three years. A large range of criteria and activities were examined such as classroom expertise, curricula quality, innovative course development and student learning outcomes.

Fowler was among the 38 tenured faculty members to receive a $30,000 award. He was also presented with a bronze medallion and a certificate of achievement.

A University Distinguished Teaching Professor, Dr. Fowler has been teaching in the Cockrell School of Engineering for forty-five years. He holds the Paul D. and Betty Robertson Meek Centennial Professor in Engineering, and serves as the Director of the Texas Space Grant Consortium.
