Raquel Galvan, BS ASE 2009, was the recipient of the Cockrell School of Engineering Outstanding Scholar Leadership Award for the fall 2009 semester. This award is presented to one graduating senior each semester in recognition of sustained superior academic performance and exceptional leadership while pursuing an engineering degree at the University of Texas at Austin.
Concerning Raquel's performance as a student, professor Glenn Lightsey said, “She truly distinguished herself in class, attending every lecture and earning an A on every test."
"She did an outstanding job as System Engineer for the design team overseeing the definition of the project requirements, directing the trade studies that helped the team choose among the many options for the various subsystems needed for the mission, and was the keeper of the interfaces between subsystems," said Professor Wallace Fowler.
Beyond her superior academic performance, Raquel has worked as an intern at NASA Johnson Space Center and Bell Helicopter where she received high accolades from supervisors.
Raquel has served as Pledge Officer, Vice-President, and Student Engineering Council Representative for Sigma Gamma Tau, the Aerospace Engineering Honor Society. She has also served as a mentor for the Women in Engineering Program, the First Generation College Student Program, and the Equal Opportunities in Engineering Program.
Plans to attend graduate school are in Raquel’s future.
