Professor Glenn Lightsey has been elected to the Institute of Navigation's (ION) Council as Space Representative for a two-year term, beginning in January 2012. Lightsey previously served on the council from 1998-2000.
Founded in 1945, the Institute of Navigation is a non-profit professional society dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of positioning, navigation and timing (PNT). Its membership is worldwide and the institute serves a diverse community including those interested in air, space, marine, land navigation, and position determination. ION is affiliated with the International Association of Institutes of Navigation.
Lightsey specializes in the dynamics and control of space vehicles using avionics sensors such as the Global Positioning System for navigation and attitude determination. He holds the position of Fellow of the W.R. Woolrich Professorship in Engineering.
