Michael Wharton is Vice President of Engineering at KUNGFU.AI, where he leads artificial intelligence initiatives focused primarily in defense, aerospace, healthcare and financial services. Prior to KUNGFU.AI, Wharton studied aerospace engineering and computer science at The University of Texas at Austin, after which he spent five years at SpaceX developing test systems for flight hardware. He then joined Applied Research Laboratories, pioneering deep learning algorithms for terrestrial, airborne, and space-based sensing platforms.
Over the past six years, Wharton has architected numerous production-level AI systems leveraging deep expertise in computer vision and remote sensing. He regularly shares his insights as a recurring guest on the Hidden Layers podcast.
